Scream 5 is in the works and fans are wondering which actor will play Ghostface in the upcoming horror film. Fans are already speculating it could be YouTuber James A Janisse. Let’s take a look at where these rumours come from. Please note: This article may contain spoilers.

Will James A Janisse take on the iconic role?

It turns out James A Janisse won’t be taking on the role of Ghostface in the movie but fans were fooled for a minute when an online user posted a short video of the actor in which he says he will play Ghostface.

In the full YouTube video, posted on Janisse’s Dead Meat page on 10 June 2021 with the caption “Dead Meat Hangout”, Janisse hosts a QA Livestream.

About 15 minutes, 28 seconds into the video, the actor reveals he is shooting a “They Talk” video for Scream, which shows the snippet of him saying he will be the voice of Ghostface for his video (not the film). So that clears it up!

Janisse was born on 6 May 1989 in Michigan, USA. He studied film at the University of Michigan and became a popular YouTuber known for counting kills in TV series and films, which he produces on his YouTube account entitled ‘Dead Meat‘.

Fans can follow him on his official Instagram account here.

So, who is Ghostface in Scream 5?

Roger L Jackson will reprise his role as the voice of Ghostface as he did in the previous four films, although who will don the mask is another story.

The cast and crew have been tight-lipped about who will bodily play Ghostface in Scream 5. There are rumours floating around there could be more than one killer in the movie, as there have been in previous Screams. However, this remains a rumour as it has yet to be confirmed.

The seven actors to wear Scream’s iconic mask

Scream (1996) saw Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich wear the mask at separate times and then Laurie Metcalf and Timothy Olyphant as the villains in Scream 2 (1997).

Scott Foley then worked alone in Scream 3 (2000) as the sole killer and brains behind the murders of the first film. In the most recent film, Scream 4 (2011), we saw Emma Roberts and Rory Culkin as joint killers.

Rumours abound that Sydney’s daughter Jill, who is also her daughter in real life, could be the killer for the fifth and final instalment of the Scream franchise.

While the voice of Ghostface has been confirmed, the killer for Scream 5 has yet to be revealed – for obvious reasons! We’ll have to keep guessing until the film is released.

Scream 5: 2022 Release date revealed

The expected release date for Scream 5 in movie theatres is 14 January 2022. The film is actually entitled Scream but as it’s the fifth instalment in the franchise, many fans prefer to call it Scream 5.

The film was originally scheduled to release in 2021. However, the pandemic delayed its premiere. Filming began in 2020, with casting having been confirmed earlier that year.

Fans can expect to see familiar faces return in Scream 5 such as Neve Campbell and David Arquette. Main cast members for the film are listed here:

  • David Arquette as Dewey Riley
  • Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott
  • Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers
  • Roger L Jackson as the voice of Ghostface
  • Marley Shelton as Judy Hicks

The remaining cast and crew for Scream 5 can be seen on IMDB, apart from the actor for… you guessed it, Ghostface.
