Where was Those Who Wish Me Dead filmed? The 2021 thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead was released in cinemas today, Friday 14 May. As fans flock to watch the new release, some are curious to know what filming locations were used throughout the film.
What is the movie about?
Those Who Wish Me Dead was directed by Taylor Sheridan, who is best known for the success of his Paramount series, Yellowstone. The film’s plot centres around a teenage murder witness (played by Finn Little) who is being hunted down by the killers through the Montana wilderness.
He’s running against the clock in unfamiliar territory, helped by a survival expert and smoker jumper (played by Angelina Jolie) who has taken it upon herself to protect him. They have to make a move for it, though, as a giant wildfire bears down on their escape.
Despite the fact that the film is set in the Montana wilderness, Those Who Wish Me Dead was not filmed in Montana. Here’s why.

In previous interviews, Sheridan has called New Mexico the ideal location to fulfil his visions for the film.
Those Who Wish Me Dead was filmed in many different locations across New Mexico including Albuquerque, Santa Clara Pueblo, Bernalillo and Rio Arriba County.
In a statement, he told the Albuquerque Journal: “In our story, the setting itself is a character, and once we started scouting our locations — from the Santa Clara Pueblo to the Jemez Mountains and the wooded foothills of the Manzanos — we knew that New Mexico would provide the rugged scope that this story demands.”

Little also touched on the film’s location when discussing the impact of the altitude on some of his own stunt work.
During an interview with The Au Review, he explained: “The most difficult thing about doing stunts in New Mexico though is the altitude. You’re so high up there and it makes it difficult to run and jump, all those physically demanding things.”
In a separate interview with YouTube channel Skewed and Reviewed Gareth Von Kallenbach, Aiden Gillen, who plays Jack in the film, talked about how, on his days off, he loved exploring New Mexico.
Gillen said: “On your days off, not that we like to talk about days off, I made sure to go in whatever direction I could. I would go on road trips into Utah or Colorado from our base in New Mexico just to sap up as much of that landscape as I could.”
