What is Black Island about?
Black Island, also known as Schwarze Insel, premiered on Netflix yesterday (Wednesday, 18 August).
The film, which is set on an island in the North Sea, follows high-school student Jonas as his life is turned upside down following the arrival of a new teacher who ends up taking over one of his classes.
Jonas and the mysterious teacher are seen to grow closer after she encourages Jonas to continue his passion for writing. Their relationship later becomes more intimate, with Jonas innocent to the dark secrets of the seemingly peaceful island.

Where was Black Island filmed?
Amrum is one of four larger islands that are part the North Frisian Islands alongside Sylt, Föhr and Pellworm.
While shots of the island are seen throughout the film, most of the scenes were filmed within the Amrum municipality, Nebel.
According to House And Whips, filming for Black Island started around October 2020 and wrapped the following month.
