It has just been revealed that The Mandalorian’s creative team went above and beyond to ensure that their Luke Skywalker reveal was not going to be spoiled. The cast were given fake scripts with Plo Koon filling the cameo role where Luke Skywalker eventually appeared. We take a closer look at this breaking story, as well as answering the question – When was Plo Koon’s death?

Star Wars spoilers ahead.

Is Plo Koon in The Mandalorian?

Unfortunately for Plo Koon fans he does not make an appearance in The Mandalorian.

According to CBR, Lucasfilm and Disney ensured that the appearance of Luke Skywalker in the series was kept a secret, even from the cast!

In a new episode of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, it is revealed that a fake script and fake concept art were used which had Plo Koon in place of Luke in order to throw people off the scent.

This fake script saw Plo Koon enter the bridge and lower his hood to reveal himself. The script directions state:

“The Jedi steps through the smoking entrance. He lowers his hood revealing that he is…Plo Koon. He is not dead after all”.

However, in reality this was all an elaborate ruse to keep the Luke Skywalker cameo under wraps.

When was Plo Koon’s death?

Plo Koon’s real death occurred in the third of the Star Wars prequels, Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith.

He was a Jedi Master, and Jedi Council member, introduced into the canon in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Plo Koon carries a simple blue lightsaber in the main Star Wars films, and a yellow, blue, orange or green blade in Star Wars Legends.

He is a Kel Dor from the world of Dorin, and uses a masked filter over his face because he cannot breathe oxygen.

However, at the end of Revenge Of The Sith we see Anakin finally go full on Sith Lord as he assumes the name of Darth Vader. Order 66 is authorised which sees the near extinction of the Jedi Order.

Plo Koon unfortunately does not escape this deadly order, as he is shot dead in his star-fighter at the battle of Cato Neimoidia.

Fans react to the Mandalorian change-up

While many fans loved seeing Luke at the end of season two of The Mandalorian, many would have liked to see the return of Plo Koon.
