Licorice Pizza trailer leaks online as fans go crazy for new PTA movie

The trailer for Licorice Pizza debuted in select theatres in LA earlier this month. However, the trailer has since leaked online and fans are split as to whether they should watch it or not! We take a closer look at exactly what happened.

What is Licorice Pizza about?

Previously titled Soggy Bottom, the film Licorice Pizza in set in the San Fernando Valley in the 1970s and follows a high school student, who also happens to be a child actor. This coming of age story follows Cooper Hoffman’s character as he tries to make it big in Hollywood.

Andrew Bundy, a reviewer who saw the trailer in LA, has said that the film appears to be Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Love letter to the youth generation”.

The title Licorice Pizza is a reference to a real-life record store in LA from the 70s that has since closed down. The cast of the film includes Bradley Cooper, Ben Stiller and Tom Waits, and comes from the director behind cult-classics like Inherent Vice, Punch-Drink Love, Phantom Thread and the Oscar-winning There Will Be Blood.

Did the Licorice Pizza trailer leak online?

The Licorice Pizza trailer was set to play on 35mm before a few screenings in LA. It was meant to only be shown to a select group of people and was not supposed to be shared online.

However, there is a recording going around social media that was surreptitiously filmed at the Alama Drafthouse. The Licorice Pizza trailer leak has since been passed around online to eager fans.

The trailer was reportedly first shown in front of Mulholland Drive, After Hours and Boogie Nights in London at the Prince Charles Cinema.

Fans react to the Licorice Pizza leak on social media

Many fans had been itching to watch the trailer for Licorice Pizza and were unhappy that other people had seen it before them.

Many have since tweeted about how glad they are that the trailer was leaked online.

However, some fans of Paul Thomas Anderson are urging the film to release its trailer early so that people can experience it as it was supposed to be experienced.

Licorice Pizza is set to be released on 26 November in limited cinemas, with the film being released widely on 25 December.
