As Reba McEntire’s The Hammer arrives on Lifetime, some fans of the “Queen of Country” are wondering whether it is a movie or series.

It has been a busy few months for country singer and actress Reba McEntire. After selling out the fall dates of her North American tour, McEntire decided to extend the tour into the new year. She will be kicking off the next leg this spring, starting in March 2023.

But while Reba fans have been patiently awaiting seeing the singer live in concert and new music, they’ve also been awaiting the release of Reba McEntire’s The Hammer on Lifetime. The Hammer finally got its premiere on Saturday, January 7 and is expected re-runs over the coming weeks.

For viewers who tuned into The Hammer, they can’t get enough. Already, some fans are wondering whether there will be more additions to Reba McEntire’s latest screen project, asking whether it will develop into a series. Let’s take a look.

Is The Hammer a movie or series?

Reba McEntire’s The Hammer is a standalone movie, not a series. Unfortunately for those hoping that McEntire would be signed on to work on several chapters of The Hammer, so far it is just a solo film.

But given the popularity of The Hammer and the nature of the TV movie, it’s not a far cry for it to be turned into a series. The Hammer follows Reba McEntire’s character, Kim Wheeler, while she works as a traveling judge. This means that we get to meet a cast of characters in the legal drama. Each additional movie offers a potential to explore new cases and mysteries for Judge Wheeler to solve.

‘Make Reba and Judge Wheeler into a series’

After the TV movie premiered, fans quickly called for Lifetime to develop The Hammer into a series.

“This movie is moving too fast. I’m not ready for it to be over. Please make Reba and Judge Wheeler into a series,” one viewer tweeted.

“I loved it! It needs to be a series,” another added.

Reba McEntire backs calls for The Hammer to become a series

It appears that Reba McEntire is in support of the calls for The Hammer to be developed from a TV movie into a series.

McEntire retweeted many calls for The Hammer to be extended into a series, tagging Lifetime in her posts. The Queen of Country even retweeted a post, adding “I agree” to a fan’s request that it be developed in a series.

The Hammer reunites Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman

One of the key draws to The Hammer is that the TV movie sees Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman reunite on screen. McEntire and Peterman formerly starred together in the comedy series, Reba.

McEntire took on the titular role of Reba Hart and Peterman starred across from her as Barbra Jean, the new wife of Reba’s ex-husband, Brock (Christopher Rich).

In The Hammer, Peterman stars as Kim Wheeler’s sister, Kris, who runs the local brothel. Sitting on other sides of the law, tensions flare between Kris and Kim as Kris becomes the prime suspect in the death of a former judge.
