How old was Christina Ricci in The Addams Family?
Filming for the 1991 movie started in the fall of November 1990. Production ran until the following spring and wrapped that April after five months.
Ricci, born February 12, 1980, would have been 10 years old when filming began. As production continued into the next year, she would have celebrated her 11th birthday before it ended.
Almost a year after filming began, the now classic film premiered to audiences in America in November 1991. By the time The Addams Family hit cinemas, Ricci would have been the same age.
In an interview onset of the 1991 film with Entertainment Tonight, the then 11-year-old described her character as a “no-emotion little girl.”
Ricci reprised Wednesday role in Addams Family Values two years later
The young star portrayed Wednesday again in Addams Family Values, which was both filmed and released in 1993.
Filming for the project started in early February 1993 and continued across the spring months before ending that June. It was later released that November.
Ricci would have been 12 when filming first started and would have celebrated her 13th birthday shortly after filming began. The actress would have been the same age when the film dropped that fall.
Ricci was closer in age to character than current Wednesday actress
When the now 42-year-old star portrayed Wednesday in both The Addams Family and Addams Family Values, her off-screen age reflected her character’s.
As explained by ScreenRant, in the 1991 film The Addams Family, Wednesday was said to have been 10 or 11, just like Ricci was. This was echoed in Addams Family Values, where a then 13-year-old Ricci portrayed the character at the same age.
In the new Netflix series based on Wednesday, the character is portrayed by Jenna Ortega, who is a few years older than her character. The 2022 series follows Wednesday at 16 years old with Ortega, who was born September 27 2002 currently 20 years old.
However, the actress was 19 years old throughout filming. When production began in September last year, the young star was 18 but would have celebrated her 19th birthday a week into filming.
