During Marvel’s Comic-Con panel it was revealed that fan-favorite character Modok is going to be appearing in Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania. However, the big-headed villain did not speak in the footage shared with audiences. This has led many fans to wonder if former Ant-Man actor Corey Stoll is going to be returning to play the character.

Modok is a villain with a giant brain, and we mean literally. Because of his insanely big cranium, he has powers of telekinesis and can design the most complex tech you’ve ever seen.

There have been rumors that various actors are going to be playing the famous villain, including Hollywood legend Jim Carrey.

We take a closer look at fan theories claiming that Corey Stoll will be making a return after his disappearance in the first Ant-Man movie.

Modok is making an appearance in the MCU

It was just revealed as part of Marvel’s SDCC panel that fan-favorite character, and villain, Modok is going to be appearing in Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania. In new footage shown to Comic-Con audiences, there was the briefest shot of the cybernetic villain, but he did not speak, so fans are still not sure exactly who is playing him.

In the comics, MODOK stands for Mental Organism Designed Only For Killing. The character is also known by the name George Tarleton, who was formerly MODOC, and was designed not for killing but for computing. He was an American technician working for AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics). However, scientists used advanced mutagenics to alter him and change him into the big-brained villain we now know.

The character’s brain became so big that he actually turned into a giant head with incredibly small limbs, having to use a floating chair to get around. He has incredible powers, such as telekinesis, and can create technological tools to stop any superhero. The character was first seen as part of a Hulu series, but it appears that the MCU version is not going to be connected. There was also another hint at the character of Modok in the Loki series, where we saw a giant Yellowjacket helmet in the void.

The Ant-Man sequel will also star Jonathan Majors as the highly-anticipated Kang The Conqueror, who was first seen in the Disney+ series Loki last year.

Is Corey Stoll playing Modok in the MCU?

There is a strong community online that hopes Corey Stoll is going to be playing Modok in the MCU. The last we saw of Stoll’s character Darren Cross/Yellowjacket was at the end of the first Ant-Man film where his character was being sucked into the Quantum Realm.

Fans are theorizing that this long-term exposure to the quantum realm could have altered him and turned him into a big-headed villain, while simultaneously giving him special powers.

While this would be a departure from the character’s origin story in the comics, it could be a useful way to link the first ant-man film with its sequels.

However, Marvel has not yet confirmed the casting for this role.

Meet House Of Cards actor Corey Stoll

Corey Stoll is a 46-year-old stage and screen actor. He was born on 14 March 1976 in New York and is most well known for his role as Congressman Peter Russo on House Of Cards. However, Stoll has frequently mentioned that his first love will always be on the stage.

He has also featured in films such as Midnight In Paris, Push, West Side Story, and The Many Saints of Newark. However, he is better known for his small-screen appearances in Billions, Ratched, Girls, and The Deuce.

Stoll has previous experience doing voice-over work in American Dad, so this could bode well for his chances of playing Modok in the MCU.

The actor has yet to comment on whether he will be returning to the MCU.

Who else has been rumored to be playing the character?

Early rumors suggested that Sonic The Hedgehog star Jim Carrey was going to be voicing Modok in the MCU. Back in December 2021, this theory was circulating around social media and also suggested that the villain may be making an appearance in the Disney+ show She-Hulk.

However, it appears that Modok will be debuting in Quantumania rather than She-Hulk. It was also then debunked as simply a rumor and hopeful fan-casting that Jim Carrey would be taking on this role.

There have also been other actors who fans cast in the role of Modok. These include Jonah Hill, Will Smith, Danny Devito, and even Denzel Washington.

Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania is set to be released on 17 February 2023.
