The arrival of the new, young German teacher, Helena, turns Jonas’s life upside down.
While acknowledging and nurturing his talents as a writer, Helena takes advantage of his growing confidence to start an intimate relationship with her pupil.

Meet the cast of Netflix’s Black Island: Philip Froissant, Alice Dwyer, Mercedes Müeller and more
Taking on the role of Jonas Hansen is 27-year-old Philip Froissant.
Black Island is Froissant’s big-screen debut – although the actor has starred in a few plays throughout his career.
In 2022, Froissant will join the cast of The Empress.
Alongside Jonas is mysterious teacher Helena Jung, played by actress Alice Dwyer.
The 33-year-old has appeared in Ma Folie (2015), Höhere Gewalt (2008) and Was Du Nicht Siehst (2009).

Taking the role of Nina Cohrs in Black Island, Jonas’ classmate with whom he shares a flourishing relationship, is actress Mercedes Müller.
The Berlin native was born on 4 November 1996. She is known for Unter Dem Eis (2005), Tschick (2016) and Jesus Cries (2015).

Acclaimed actor Hanns Zischler portrays Friedrich Hansen, Jonas’ grandfather.
With more than 260 actor credits to his name, Zischler has made his mark in works by Wenders, Godard, Akerman, Chabrol, Caviani and Spielberg since 1968.
