American rapper Yung Baby Tate, one of the newest faces on Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, has made a splash in recent years, but it’s not for want of musical parents. Her mother and father, Dionne Farris and David Ryan Harris, were recording artists before their daughter was even born. So, who are Yung Baby Tate’s parents?

Who is Yung Baby Tate?

Born 1996 in Decatur, Georgia, Yung Baby Tate (real name: Tate Sequoyah Farris) is a rapper, singer and record producer.

Tate released her debut EP ROYGBIV in November 2015, and a Christmas-themed EP a year later. But she started playing music at a much earlier age.

In an interview with The Source, she credits her “start in music” to her time spent “in the womb”.

When did she start performing?

Her first tap dance recital was when she was six years old. “Since then, I’ve been performing.”

She played the piano age 10, sang in choir at church, and attended performing arts schools as a youngster.

Then, as an early teen, she began to formulate “who Yung Baby Tate is musically”.

“I was just coming up with ideas in my room. I used to record – I still do record in my room, but all of ROYGBIV was made in my room.”

Who are Yung Baby Tate’s parents?

Yung Baby Tate’s mother is Dionne Farris, a jazz singer, producer and actress from New Jersey.

Among other accolades, Farris was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1996, for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, for her 1995 single I Know.

But Dionne Farris, like her daughter, also made a name for herself as a hip hop singer.

In the early 1990s, she featured on Arrested Development’s hit single Tennessee – the hip hop troupe, not the sitcom.

Farris’ latest album, Dionne Dionne, came out in 2015. It is a collaboration with guitarist Charlie Hunter, whom Farris met on a hip hop tour while working for two different groups in 1991.

What about her father?

Tate’s father is David Ryan Harris, a singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles.

Born in Evanston, Illinois in 1968, Ryan Harris’ music ranges in genre from R&B to folk. He cites Prince, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder among his influences.

He featured on Dionne Farris’ 1995 album Wild Seed, Wild Flower, and has since performed regularly with John Mayer, Dave Matthews and Santana.

Yung Baby Tate is the only daughter of Dionne Farris and David Ryan Harris. David, however, has four other sons, according to Discogs: Miles, Life, River and Truman.
