Workout guru reveals why sleeping with T-Rex arms means your stuck

A TikTok creator and workout guru has revealed why sleeping with T-Rex arms is a sign of your body living in its defense mechanism.

For decades, sleep habits, cycles and patterns have been studied extensively by the scientific community. Good health and a positive mind often hinge on getting enough rest, but still, everyones sleep habits are as individual as their personalities.

What do T-Rex arms mean?

This week, TikTok content creator The Workout Witch (@theworkoutwitch) took to the platform with her usual brand of helpful information. This time, she replied to a comment asking about the infamous startle reflex.

She explained that startle reflexes are directly linked with T-Rex arms, which is when you curl your arms upwards just like the ancient dinosaur.

She explained to her 1.7 million followers: If you sleep with t-rex arms your nervous system is so overloaded and overwhelmed that your body is stuck in your startle reflex even while youre asleep. You subconsciously hunch your arms in as you sleep to protect yourself.

Your startle reflex is an automatic and rapid physiological reaction to a sudden stimulus like a loud noise. Its a primitive, involuntary response that keeps you safe in danger, she added. The problem is that long-term stress or long-term trauma can cause your body to get stuck in its startle reflex.

The results of startle reflexes are frequent and include very visceral reactions to otherwise harmless circumstances

The Workout Witch continued: If youre stuck in your startle reflex you may find that you have a sudden jump or jerk to even minor stressors.

You gasp really loudly when youre startled, youre sleeping with t-rex arms at night. You immediately start sweating when youre getting scared, youre clenching your stomach or your jaw or raising your shoulders right now without even realising it.

She concluded the PSA by suggesting that your body could be holding onto stored fear and stored trauma.

Or put in other words, your body is living in its defense mechanism, she added.

Fans share their own sleep stories

Many of the Workout Witchs followers took to the comments to discuss the information and open up about their own sleep habits.

One person joked: Lol not me laying down with my t rex arms watching this.

It’s comfortable, another person argued, to which the original poster responded, You will know if it is rooted in trauma for you or not.

I slept like that for a very LONG TIME. I can’t sleep flat because my body would fall into paralysis along with lucid nightmares, another confession read.
