Crazy sweatshirt sleep hack

“I’ve been getting the best sleep of my life for 4 nights now and I’m gonna show you how I’ve hacked this system,” she says in the viral video.

The TikTok user grabs a sweatshirt and folds it in half with the sleeves hanging down. Then, she puts it over her head, covering her eyes but avoiding the nose and mouth.

She then lays down on her back, grabs the sleeves and wraps them around her face. They go underneath the chain and tie up, securing the whole mask.

“Loling at myself but I swear it works just try it,” the caption says.

Hack freaks out TikTok

People think the hack is a little scary, with one person commenting: “This would make me feel panicked and suffocated.”

“Did this, when I woke up I forgot I was wearing it. Totally panicked and screamed while my dog tried to figure out what was happening,” said another.

A third person added: “HARD NO this would cause me to have a major panic attack.”

However, the TikTok user claims the position is “so comfortable” and “works wonders,” allowing you to sleep soundly for the entire night.

Method backed by science

Sleeping with an entire sweatshirt around your head is a little ludicrous, but the idea is backed by science. It’s sleeping with your eyes and ears covered that’s beneficial as light and sound play an important role in sleep, Medical News Today explains.

Sleep masks can help you sleep better by blocking out the light, which can disrupt sleep. Similarly, ear muffs or earplugs stop you from being disturbed by sounds while asleep, further improving rest time and preventing fatigue throughout the day.

A 2017 study into the effect of earplugs and eye masks on the quality of sleep in intensive care patients found “a significant improvement” in sleep quality when these non-pharmacological interventionswere used.

However, it’s important to ensure that your mouth and nose are not covered as this will cause difficulty breathing and increase the risk of suffocation.
