Woman to become first ever person to marry ‘AI generated hologram’
The forward-thinking European has invited audiences from around the world to attend the supposed human-to-AI wedding.
As the technology continues to develop, artificial intelligence is starting to become increasingly important to our everyday lives. Whether it’s helping you with your homework or coding your spreadsheet at work, more and more people are starting to incorporate automated tech into other lives. But have you ever considered that one day your spouse could be AI?
An AI wedding? Woman vows to marry hologram in world first
A boundary-pushing artist in the Netherlands vows to be “the first woman to marry a hologram”, as she endeavors to test the limits of relationships between humans and artificial intelligence.
Alicia Framis is a performer who has created an “AI entity” using the profiles and personalities of people in her personal life, and is daring to ask the question of what marriage would look like between a human person and such a creation.
According to her Instagram, @hybridcouples, Framis belongs to a “contemporary couple” in which she and her hologram-presenting companion, the aptly named Ailex, are sharing “life and emotions” in a bid to help the world think about the way we view modern relationships and our potential romantic connections with AI.
Discussing her intimate adventure with an AI-powered hologram, Framis said: “We know that soon robots and humans will be sexual partners, but for me, the next important step is emotionally involving artificial intelligence with humans.”
AI wedding to take place in museum
Such is Framis’ conviction about her unusual project, the artist is publically advertising the wedding between herself and Ailex.
Though an exact date has not yet been given, the pair are set to tie the virtual knot late this summer, on a rooftop terrace at the DeDepot Boijmans museum in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Though the idea may sound strange to most people, Framis insists that marriage between AI and humans will only become more accepted in years to come.
“A new generation of love is emerging, whether we want it or not, where humans will be married and in relationships with holograms, avatars, robots, and more”, said the Spanish-born artist. “Just as we practice new languages with Duolingo, we will practice relationships with these entities.”
Can humans really develop feelings for AI?
So, is it really possible that Framis’ prediction may come true – that humans may increasingly begin to share an altar with AI on their wedding day?
Well, according to research undertaken by Psychology Today, it is in fact possible for humans to fall in love with AI.
Tasked with trying to gain an understanding of the way humans connect with non-sentient beings, Dr. Wendy Patrick uncovered that past research has displayed that the high levels of cognitive and emotional ability displayed by various AI models have helped to harbor genuine human-to-machine feelings.
It is thought that the more AI does for a human, the greater trust builds between the couple, thus leading to the possibility of a genuine human-to-AI connection and feelings of intimacy.
So, next time you ask Alexa to play your favorite song, stop to consider that one day that might be the soundtrack to the first dance at your half-human, half-robot wedding.
