Woman gives fake phone number to ‘creepy’ stranger but it becomes a nightmare
Perhaps this is one of the oldest tricks in the book – giving a fake phone number to someone you want to evade further encounters with. But it could cause great damage still, it seems.
Turning down dates isn’t always easy – we get it. Some take your cue, cope with the rejection healthily, and move on with their lives, while others can be extremely adamant and stubborn when it comes to wooing a romantic interest. But one TikTok user’s experience should stop you from sharing the wrong contact details.

Woman gets ‘creepy’ messages from a stranger
TikTok user Dee, who calls herself a “Professional Ranter” had one of the scariest experiences with a man she never met or knew of. She believes the issue boils down to women or men giving fake phone numbers to strangers they aren’t interested in.
Dee was holidaying in Abu Dhabi when she received an iMessage from an unknown number. She was quite intrigued because she always uses WhatsApp to chat with her contacts.
The man on the other end wrote in his message: “Hello, are you there?”, which she felt was like the “beginning of a horror movie.” However, he revealed his name when Dee asked who he was, and said in his following text message that he assumed he was speaking to Liz, the girl who gave him the fake phone number.
Dee was only nice to the guy because he got curved by the other woman, but her generosity doesn’t serve her well in the end.
TikTok user was horrified
Dee wasn’t as alarmed about her exchange with the stranger until he took the liberty to ask her age. She claims his message read: “How old are you?” upon learning her true identity, prompting her to block him and change her privacy setting on WhatsApp to limit her personal information to her contacts.
But the stranger was unhinged and tried to connect with her on another app called LINE, which allows “safe” messaging and is co-owned by a Japanese and South Korean company. Dee had the app because she lived in Japan before, but she was startled when the “creepy” stranger used it to connect with her.
“So, I am not expecting anyone with a +44 number to have the app. But lo and behold Mister Kurt has the app,” she says, before revealing that he reached out to her on LINE after being blocked on iMessage.
She was shaken upon realizing the stranger wasn’t willing to take a no for an answer despite being turned down more than once. Even though Dee is glad the girl called Liz got away, she can’t say the same about her experience.
TikTok users feel similarly about Dee’s scary experience. One user said: “Kurt is scary” when another added: “Chile this is exactly why she gave him the wrong number because DAMN.”
“This is why I always give my brother’s number,” suggested one, and another said: “Fellas! After she said it was the wrong number, you got to move on. Messaging on different apps is outrageous.”
