Woman gets laid off for ‘no reason’ and stands up for herself in ‘poised’ response

A woman has gone viral on TikTok after filming herself getting laid off from her corporate tech job via a video call for ‘no reason’ and people are applauding her reaction.

Brittany’s friend had a meeting 30 minutes prior and was let go, so she knew she was about to be sacked too and decided to switch on the camera and stand up for herself.

Woman films herself getting laid off

The viral video begins with two members of HR saying she hasn’t met their 2023 performance expectations, so they have decided to “part ways” with her.

“I’m going to stop your right there,” the woman butts in before defending herself in a lengthy rant which catches them off guard.

She explains that she only started in August and has had the highest activity amongst her team and worked really hard.

“I don’t think that makes a lot of sense for me in my journey here,” the TikTok user says about the unfair laying off.

Brittany adds that her manager tells her she’s doing a “great job” at every 1:1 they’ve had and says things have been going really well.

“I make really great relationships with my clients, so I disagree that I haven’t met performance expectations when I certainly have,” she continues.

Employee stands up for herself

The HR team are taken aback by her response and try to explain that she is not being singled out, with her peers also being assessed on performance.

However, the woman asks specifically why she has been let go, to which the boss replies: “I won’t be able to go into specifics for numbers.”

She continues to explain that she’s been working “extremely hard” and demands an answer, which they fail to give.

“I don’t think Dom or myself today is gonna give you any clarity or answers that’s going to meet the expectation that you’re communicating to us,” the other HR member adds.

“So, am I getting let go for no reason?” Brittany says – to which they again refuse to give her a straight answer and avoid the question.

She then tells them it’s not fair for them to lay people off and “wreck their whole life” traumatizingly with no explanation.
