Woman faces fear of butterflies in viral video

Y’know, those delightful winged insects that flutter about all summer and are just so beautiful to look at? Well, not everybody is a fan.

Trevor Hanson, a licensed therapist and relationship coach (theartofhealingbytrevor), recently took to Instagram to share what happened when he took his wife Elise to the Butterfly Biosphere to conquer her fear of butterflies.

“Last year [Elise] faced her biggest fear!” Trevor captioned the post. “Im too proud of her not to post it again!”

“Taking my wife to face her biggest fear,” the video teases, and we follow the pair as Trevor films his wife inside the Biosphere. She’s clearly on edge, and why? “They’re gonna bite me,” she hilarious warns her partner, who’s clearly having a great time behind the phone camera.

After assuring her the butterflies won’t bite, she accuses, “That’s what you said about the ladybug.” She’s dipping, darting, and diving all over the place, her husband reassuring her “Breathe out& relax your muscles.”

Conquering her phobia, she announces, “I’m kinda getting used to being here,” and she has one land on her arm. She’s in shock, but the video ends with one on her head while she’s walking around. Mission: Accomplished.

The reactions are gold

You may be wondering: How does one get afraid of butterflies? “Probably traumatized by that SpongeBob episode,” somebody joked in the comments, referring to the installment where there’s a live-action close-up of a moth.

As somebody who, once upon a time, was afraid of moths& I actually kind of get it, although I was never afraid of butterflies.

“Butterflies are no joke, they kill tens of people each year worldwide,” another joked in the comment section. “Proud of her.” Similarly, another commented that the insects are “Satan’s helpers.”

Others have been quick to point out that fears are often irrational and that they understand where she’s coming from, admitting they’re “proud of her” after seeing the video.

“I’m actually terrified and no one gets it but her,” one admitted. It’s a hilarious video, but it turns out it’s more relatable than you’d expect.
