Woman ends friendship of 14 years over Christmas gift ‘so bad’ that she had ‘no choice’
If you think you’ve received the most horrible Christmas present, wait until you hear the story of a TikTok user who broke up with her best friend of 14 years over a gift she least expected.
Christmas presents are a big deal, but they don’t have to always be expensive to bring a smile to your dear ones’ faces; it’s the thought that counts. Yesterday, we told you about a mother on TikTok who most logically explained the reason behind buying gifts for only one of her two children. Today, let’s talk about the lady who called quits on her friendship of years after getting a “bad” festive present.

TikTok is full of stories about awful Christmas presents this week, so Hailey Peters decided to share her own experience. Her clip has been viewed more than 1.4 million times.
This happened in 2019 and the caption on her video read: “The gift was so bad I had no choice. Enjoy this story bc it is unbelievable.”
Hailey and her unnamed friend had planned to exchange Christmas presents for months, and the TikTok user handpicked gifts worth $150 for her bestie. Although she did not expect the same, she thought her best friend would have invested the same amount of thought and energy into picking a present for her.
However, on the day of Christmas when they were supposed to exchange presents, Hailey went over to her bestie’s house gave her the present. Then, the unnamed friend excused herself to go to the other room.
Hailey thought the entire time that her best friend had picked something really thoughtful for her until she came out with a “dirty” white notebook, whose first four pages were ripped off. “Because you love writing, this is for you,” she said while handing over the gift.
The first page had the handwritten note: “To Hailey. Love you. Merry Christmas,” and the TikTok user was convinced it was a prank. She says she enjoys reading more than writing, which her friend wasn’t aware of, or simply didn’t bother to know.
As Hailey was caught off guard by her friend’s gesture, she left the notebook back at her place and walked out. She never spoke to her again, she knew she was “done.”
“Its not the gift. Its, like, the principle, like effort and friendship and stuff,” explained Hailey. The gift exchange was supposedly the other girl’s idea and she had a “million presents” under the Christmas tree in the house for everyone else. The former friends haven’t spoken since that incident.
TikTok user was ‘confused’ for months
In the comments, Hailey claimed her best friend had been singing praises of the present she had picked for her, and the former was left extremely confused when she got a dirty white notebook in the end.
“The craziest part is that for weeks she was like youre gonna love your gift! . No situation has ever confused me more,” she wrote.
Users have sympathized with Hailey for enduring the bitter experience on the special day of the year. Most of them are glad that she ended the one-sided friendship.
“Sometimes you can be someones best friend but they arent yours,” said one.
Another added: “I need to know what kind of excuse she came up with to explain why she gave you a dirty notebook.”
“Your feelings were valid because the fact you dont even like writing is the worst part,” said another.
