Woman embroiled in debate as she captures CCTV of nephew hurling bricks at chickens

An auntie is in a difficult position after her nephew seemingly abused her chickens with bricks in “self-defense”, with some suggesting she should drop the issue completely.

Reddit might be a hotbed of misinformation and men in their Soft Guy Eras, but it is also home to many fascinating subReddits. One of the most entertaining is AITA, where people from across the globe question if they are in the wrong. Previous posts sparked stories like the grandparents who prevented a man from reconnecting with his kids.

The child was dubbed a ‘psycho’ by some users

The Relationship Advice subreddit, which earlier this year detailed the sister who refused to lie about her sibling’s citizenship test, is currently embroiled in a debate over the attempted murder of chickens.

“Long story short on Friday my 4th grader nephew was supposed to playing outside at my parent’s house next door but he opened my gate in my privacy fence, snuck into my yard, and checked all the doors,” the original poster penned, explaining that she was talking to him through her Ring Video Doorbell.

Disaster struck a few minutes later when her nephew entered her garden and began “hucking” bricks at her family of chickens. Soon enough, she gathered his brother and the original poster’s own son to join in on the fun.

“He injured my rooster and my literal very favorite hen who is at the top of the pecking order and is the very friendliest with the biggest personality,” he said. “The rooster I specially selected out of 6 that I raised, I kept him specifically after growing them all up and watching them interact with their flock and my family I selected him for his calm temperament and friendly behavior.”

They were both injured “pretty bad”, with the rooster showing a limp and the hen taking a brick straight to the face.

She added: “The story he told his parents before I could ever even talk to them is that, ‘My aunt asked me to go collect eggs with my cousin and we went into the coop like she asked and the rooster started being aggressive so I started throwing rocks to defend myself’.”

Though the boy’s parents seemed concerned with the behavior, they couldn’t quite grasp how serious it was for him to lie so expertly about the situation.

Boys will be boys its just a stupid mistake,” the original poster’s own parents, and the boy’s grandparents, reportedly said. Cut the kid some slack, hes a kid, he was wrong, he knows it now. You need to let this go. I love you & understand how mad you are but are you going to let this affect your relationship with him forever? None of us are perfect, let it go!”

Some don’t agree with the original poster’s issue

The comments section was fairly unified in the belief that the child was in the wrong, though some did say he’s “only a kid” like the child’s grandparents.

One person argued: “Not a good sign when a young child is injuring a chicken. IMO your nephew needs to be seen ASAP by a child therapist. This abusive hateful behavior is very very worrisome.”

“Jesus Christ boys will be boys is meant for hot wheels and playing in the mud and thinking Minecraft deserves a Pulitzer, not assaulting defenseless animals for no reason,” another person wrote.

Though the original poster had countless people in her corner, not everyone agreed with her passionate stance. In fact, some said she should drop the issue entirely as the boy claimed “self-defense” as a motive.
