Your McDonald’s cup says ‘WcDonald’s’ on the front because it’s part of a new anime collaboration with Studio Pierrot. It doesn’t arrive until February 26, but some locations have started using the packaging early.
The collaboration will launch in 30 global markets and include a new sauce, manga-inspired packaging, episodic shorts and so much more, McDonald’s said in a press release, and the fast food chain is taking on the new name ‘WcDonald’s’.
“For years, anime fans have been making McDonald’s-inspired ‘WcDonald’s’ restaurants a part of anime’s most memorable movies and shows,” they said – so McDonald’s is bringing fans’ fictional vision to real life.
Throughout the collaboration, the famous McDonald’s ‘M’ will be flipped upside down, and the WcDonald’s logo will appear on cups, burger boxes and other packaging across the world for the foreseeable future.
Packaging designed by Japanese artist
Pictures of the anime packaging have leaked online which show a brown bag covered in a manga-style comic strip.
McDonald’s has teamed up with Japanese�manga artist and illustrator�Acky Bright�to design the packaging, which features all the new “WcDonald’s Crew” characters.
Plus, customers can scan a code to access weekly digital manga drops. McDonald’s is also releasing four episodic short anime movies weekly from February 26�to�March 18.
“I had a great time partnering with McDonald’s to help make WcDonald’s a reality for manga fans who have a genuine love for the brand,”�Acky Bright said.
“From the details of the diverse Crew characters to the manga plot itself, I loved being able to use my artwork to bring to life the dynamic, vibrant world of WcDonald’s for people around the world.”
Spicy new WcDonald’s sauce is coming
McDonald’s is launching a new Savory Chili WcDonald’s Sauce, which will only be available for a limited time.
The dip has a unique combination of ginger, garlic and soy with a slight heat from chili flakes, “packing an energetic blast of flavor in every bite”.
It’s designed to be paired with 10-piece “WcNuggets,” as their famous McNuggets are also being rebranded for the promotion.
