Why your BeReal isn’t posting and five potential fixes
Forget TikTok, BeReal is the new social media app everyone is using.
The French platform, which sees users posting one photo per day at a specific time, was released in 2020 but didn’t gain popularity until mid-2022.
Everyone is notified simultaneously to capture and share a photo in two minutes at a random time of day, and the great concept results in some hilarious images.
There are 25 million daily active users as of January 2024, many of which post a photo every single day and get really frustrated when their BeReal doesn’t post.
As with all social media apps, BeReal sometimes has issues and users are often left unable to upload their photo during the two minute window.

Why your BeReal isn’t posting
There are usually two reasons why your BeReal isn’t posting and you are getting an error message that says “upload failed, click to retry”.
- There is a problem with your network.
- The app is having server issues.
If BeReal is having server issues, there’s not really much you can do. That means there’s a bug with the app which is causing it to go down for lots of users.
It’s really annoying, but glitches are common on social media apps like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and BeReal and it’s usually a problem on the app’s part.
When its servers go down, certain parts of the app don’t work properly and you simply have to wait a few hours for them to fix the problem.
However, if it’s just you that’s experiencing the error and it’s not a nationwide issue, that probably means there’s a problem with your network. Find some potential fixes below.
How to fix your BeReal
In that case, here are some things to try that could fix your app.
- Check your internet connection
Look at your phone’s WiFi or mobile data settings to ensure your phone is connected to the internet. Try turning off your WiFi or data and then turn it back on again.
- Clear your cache
Sometimes, the app doesn’t work properly because of all the data stored in it. Try clearing the cache by going to Profile > Settings > Other > Clear Cache.
- Close the app
Often, all you need to do is shut down the app and then open it again. On an iPhone, do this by swiping up on your homepage.
- Log out of the app
If closing it doesn’t work, logging out of the app, waiting a few minutes and logging back in might just work. You could also try deleting the app and re-downloading.
- Turn your phone off
Its the oldest trick in the book, and sometimes all youve got to do is turn your phone off and on again to make your app work again.
