Instagram Bluetooth and glasses message

Instagram would like to use Bluetooth, the message says. This allows your phone to find and connect to the glasses using a Bluetooth connection.

Its appearing inside a grey pop up box which takes up the whole screen and Instagram users must either click Dont Allow or Ok.

People are really confused as they dont have any Bluetooth glasses that they are trying to connect to, and have taken to Twitter/X to try and get some answers.

One person wrote: Ew did any of yall get that pop up on Instagram right now about enabling Bluetooth for glasses? Am I going insane.

Why did I just get a notification on Instagram asking for permission to Bluetooth so I can use my glasses?????????? I wish I screenshot it because WHAT.

A third person added: “Why did my Instagram ask me if I want to connect it to Bluetooth to pair to the glasses? What glasses?

Why the strange message is appearing

The message was clearly an error related to Metas new smart glasses which launched at the end of 2023 in collaboration with Ray-Ban.

Meta released the glasses in October, a new and improved version of their Ray-Ban Stories which were first announced in 2020.

With almost 1.4 million users worldwide as of January 2024, the app often malfunctions due to a technical error.

Thats all that appears to be happening here, and the error was sent to thousands of accounts by accident.

Instagram briefly thought you were trying to connect a pair of smart glasses due to a glitch, but this wasnt the case.

Meta releases Ray-Ban Smart Glasses

“In partnership with EssilorLuxottica, were launching a new generation of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses,” Meta said in September 2023.

The $299 glasses do all kinds of things including capturing photos and video, listening to music, taking phone calls and live-streaming straight to Facebook or Instagram.

They feature improved audio and cameras, more than 150 different custom frame and lens combinations, and are lighter and more comfortable than the first model.

“From music festivals and birthday parties to first steps, graduations, and beyond, Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses free you from the constraints of a hand-held camera,” Meta says.

This means you can enjoy your surroundings without having to hold up a phone and won’t miss out on all the action.
