Why and how you should be applying sun protection daily
Dermatologists across the globe recommend wearing some form of sun protection every single day, regardless of the weather outside.
Though the benefits of SPF are well documented and reported every single year, most people simply dont partake in the skincare practice. Reports suggest that only 31% of Americans wear sunscreen all year round, with a larger 58% only wearing it during the summer months.

Why you should wear sun protection every day
In the morning, as the sun is just breaking through the clouds, you might wash your face, apply a moisturizer, and perhaps even several layers of makeup. But in between the many morning self-care steps, you should also be applying a layer of sun protection, says licensed aesthetician Blaire Arvin.
Blaire, who is the owner of Skincare by Blaire, told The Focus: “A lot of it has to do with the formulations. People are scared of the old school white cast it may leave on their skin and would prefer to skip it.
But in 2024, that nasty white cast is not a compulsory experience. Its all about the products you choose and the methods you use when making the long-term investment for your skin health.
Though sunscreen serves the primary purpose of protecting your skin from harmful radiation, it also works wonders at keeping you youthful and glowing. Now you just need to pick one, which we understand can be a little daunting.
Blaire explained: The good news is, there are so many more skin-loving sunscreens available out there these days. I tend to steer clients in the direction of Korean sunscreens.
Not only are they more cosmetically elegant with literally no white cast, Korean sunscreens utilize better, more up-to-date, effective UV filters. The US hasn’t approved a new sunscreen filter since the 90’s. We’re way behind.
My favorite go-to Korean sunscreen right now is the Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics SPF50+ PA++++ sunscreen, she added.
How you should use sun protection

Skincare science has come a long way in recent years and there are now products for just about everyones needs. Arguably the most difficult part is forming the habit.
Make it a habit to apply it daily no matter what and I promise you your skin will not only thank you but your bank account will as well, Blaire told us. You can now find sunscreen compacts, tinted and non-tined (skin better science), tinted sunscreens that have a wide range of colors and feel and spread like bb creams (color science), sunscreen sticks, sunscreen patches, you name it.
Ultimately, Blaire argued that there are enough products out there to suit your specific needs.
