What is an adult ‘Diaper Spa’? New Hampshire retreat branded ‘sick’ and ‘disturbing’

An adult ‘Diaper Spa’ that recently opened in New Hampshire has gone viral and internet users are creeped out by the strange retreat, However, its owner, a qualified doctor, has clapped back at the negative reactions.

The spa, which is located in Atkinson, is being branded “sick” and “disturbing” on social media, but Dr. Murphy told The Focus she simply provides “high-quality serious care” to “those who have suffered trauma, abuse, deal with chronic or progressive disease, or deal with stress triggers”.

What is an adult ‘Diaper Spa’?

The Diaper Spa is a place where adults can go to wear diapers and act like children. This is called paraphilic infantilism, when people enjoy role-playing and regressing to an infant-like state.

“The Diaper Spa is here to serve all diaper-wearing individuals who seek acceptance, respite, and care,” the website says.

Activities include playtime, story time, nap time, cuddle time, changing time, coloring, nursery rhymes, and sing-a-longs.

It’s open to everyone aged 21+ from all races, genders, sexual persuasions, and preferences, the spa says.

Every session is uniquely planned for each specific guest, and they even provide weekend, vacation and B&B stays too.

A 2020 study into “adult baby diaper lovers” (ABDL) found that this behavior usually stems from parental rejection during childhood.

It’s run by a qualified doctor

The whole thing is run by an “exceptionally trained and licensed medical doctor” called Dr. Colleen Ann Murphy with “two years of training in nurturing people”.

US News Health reveals she has a medical degree from McGovern Medical School at UTHealth and has been in practice for more than 20 years.

She uses the spa to “stimulate all of the senses in an incredibly soft and soothing way” and offers a variety of packages that range from $300 to $1,500 in price.

A live telephone call with the doctor costs $150, while an hour long “spa-like nursery experience for the little one inside of you” will set you back $300.

An entire 24-hour stay is the most expensive option at $1,500, “a premier spa experience” at Diaper B&B with “top-notch care and pampering services”.

Dr. Murphy claps back at backlash

The Diaper Spa has gone viral online this week and is receiving a lot of backlash as people brand it “wrong” and “sick”.

One person wrote on Twitter/X: “Is this even acceptable? Adults walking up, wearing diapers and role plays as kids is sick.”

“This is so disturbing,” said another, while a third person called the whole concept “insanity”.

However, Dr. Murphy slammed these views, telling The Focus The Diaper Spabrings people “comfort and solace, providing a haven from the stresses, traumas, and triggers they have faced in their history or that they face daily”.

“We all have our own coping strategies, some not so healthy, such as drugs, smoking, cutting, alcohol addiction, dysfunctional relationships with food, gambling, or even compulsive shopping,” she explained – and paraphilic infantilism is just another one of them.

The owner added that the Diaper Spa provides a “safe, nonjudgmental space for persons with wounds, internal and external, to process, decompress, and regress,” by engaging in certain activities including art therapy, music therapy, and safe supervised regression activities.

She clarified that her spa is for people that see this behavior as a “physical or emotional necessity” rather than just for entertainment, and is not associated with “pedophiles, perverts, and sex offenders” in any way.
