It’s important to eat the correct foods at breakfast, lunch and dinner to remain fuelled throughout the day and get all the nutrients your body needs to function.
A doctor has shared exactly what he eats for lunch, revealing the ideal meal that provides the best nutrition, keeps you full and prevents unhealthy snacking.

What a doctor eats for lunch
Speaking on TikTok, Dr Amir Khan, a general practitioner in the UK, revealed that he prepares a salad every night to take to work the next day – but it has a very specific list of ingredients which all provide different health benefits.
The salad includes:
- Red onions
- Cucumber
- Tomatoes
- Chickpeas
- Olive oil
- Lime juice
He explained that red onions are great for your gut health and contain a plant compound called anthacyonin, which has been shown to help your heart.
The cucumber is a brilliant source of Vitamin K, needed for healthy bones, and fiber, which is great for the gut. It also contains cucurbitacins, compounds with potential anti-cancer properties.
Tomatoes are high in antioxidants, lycopene and beta-carotene, which can help prevent damage to cells, and are a good source of Vitamin C for the immune system.
The protein comes from the chickpeas, which are also full of fiber, both helping to keep you fuller for longer and not be tempted to snack on unhealthy treats.
As a dressing, he uses a drizzle of olive oil which is a monounsaturated fat, and a squeeze of lime juice, another great source of Vitamin C.
He follows it with nuts and berries
Khan follows the salad with a big bowl of mixed nuts, including walnuts and pistachios, which also help him feel fuller for longer as they are healthy fats.
Walnuts are full of omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for brain and heart health, while pistachios are packed with fiber and antioxidants.
After that, he eats a punnet of blueberries which have five essential health benefits thanks to their antioxidants, fiber and vitamins.
This lunch supports a healthy diet packed with nutrition including proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and water.
As explained by MedlinePlus, all adults should eat a variety of foods, including vegetables, fruits, whole-grain products, lean meats, fish, beans and low-fat dairy products.
You should also ensure you are getting enough fiber, drinking lots of water, and limiting your intake of salt, sugar, alcohol and saturated fat.
A balanced diet should provide your body with all the nutrients you need to live healthily, especially calcium, vitamin D and potassium.
