Waitress hit with plate in viral assault video speaks out as she puts police to shame

A woman claiming to be at the center of a viral assault video in Nando’s has spoken out for the first time, accusing the police of letting her down during the stressful encounter.

Though not as widespread in America, Nando’s is a chicken restaurant that is renowned in the UK for its spicy sauces and butterfly breasts. It’s a little bit like Raising Cane’s, which you can now buy dupes for in Walmart – thank us later!

The video spread through social media this week

Despite the horrible ordeal taking place in March, this week, a video has circulated on social media that showed a waitress in Nando’s being hit in the face with a plate.

In this clip, which is widely available on sites like Twitter and TikTok, the waitress could be seen approaching a man, woman, and their child. After putting the plate on the table, the man seemingly picked it up and hit the waitress in the face with it.

As reported by the BBC, the waitress and the man had a verbal confrontation before the physical one. She told him they needed to move tables to use a highchair, which for some reason angered the customer.

The girl checked herself for injuries before walking away, visibly stunned as the family left the restaurant just a few moments later.

Though two police officers were dining in the restaurant at the time, they let the man leave and did nothing to support the woman, she has since claimed.

Taking to TikTok earlier this week, Zahra (@zahra_etc) said she was the waitress in the viral video as she shared her version of events.

Whats more cornering than the man’s behaviour was the failure of the Metropolitan Police and their conduct, I was grossly let down by them, theyve reopened the investigation now, thanks to all of the support and attention its been receiving online and for that Im grateful, however, I was really disappointed and let down by what happened at the time with the police, she said.

Zahra said she is taking a stand to make a point about the growing violence against women and girls.

The police have since made a statement

The UK’s Metropolitan Police have since made a statement about their officers, though frankly, social media users have doubled down on the their failure.

We are aware of a video circulating online showing an incident in a branch of Nando’s in Stratford which took place in March,” the police said in a statement. A report of assault was made to police at the time of the incident, however, it appears this was not progressed promptly by officers. We are working to establish why this happened and accept this is not the level of service Londoners should rightfully expect from the Met.

We have since made contact with the victim and a statement has been taken we will endeavour to keep her updated with the progress of this investigation.

There has been no arrest and enquiries are ongoing to locate the man involved. Anyone who can provide information about this incident should call 101 ref CAD 1872/21 Aug.

In response, one person said on Twitter: “Physically assaulted by a man. Dismissed by police officers who in turn were protected by management justifying their gross failure as ‘human error’ Even the Nandos supervisor failed her, the staff, and customers by not ejecting the aggressive man. So many investigations here!”
