What bed to avoid for your dog

Fluffy beds are always a dog-favorite. No wonder they hog our beds. However, it isn’t the best option for your pooch if it still chews on things.

Chewing is a normal dog instinct and they do it for multiple reasons. Recently we told you how to stop your puppy from destroying anything and everything, including their new beds.

While picking the bed for your dog, ensure you’re going with one made of chew-resistant material if your furry friend is big on biting things. Veterinarian Adam Christman recommends getting your dog a stuffing-free elevated bed.

The elevated beds are a great option for summer as they keep your pet’s body temperature cool with plenty of ventilation. These cost about $30 on average on Amazon.

You can also consider ice beds with gel stuffing, only if your dog doesn’t chew as the insides of the bed can be toxic. Chewing on soft beds could also lead to a series of issues such as stomach upset, and diarrhea; the chunks from the bed can be a choking hazard for your pet.

There are plenty of options if your dog isn’t a biter. The vet recommends small beds with lips for smaller breeds as they can use the edge to rest their neck or heads.

He recommends getting ortho beds if you have giant breeds; it offers better support for their bones. “Helps avoid elbow hygromas & sores on knees,” he says.

Meanwhile, the fold-and-go beds are best to bring while traveling with your dog. They are durable, lightweight, and easy to carry.
