University of Minnesota dancers go viral with incredible performance at nationals
The triumphant performance already has viewers claiming no one will put together a better dance routine than the University of Minnesota in 2024.
Even those with two left feet will be able to recognize the brilliance put on display by the University of Minnesota, whose recent dance performance is the most aesthetically pleasing video to come out of 2024 thus far.
University of Minnesota already has the best dance routine of 2024
This past weekend saw colleges across the states come together for the Universal Dance Association’s National Championships in Orlando, Florida. And while Ohio State took home 1st place in the highly competitive jazz category, all eyes were on the runners-up, who took the internet by storm with their triumphant performance.
Set to Dream On by Aerosmith, the University of Minnesota, or U of M as they are affectionately known, earned a standing ovation – wowing crowds both in person and online with a series of complex maneuvers and an impressive level of synchronization.
Having already been re-clipped and uploaded to several different social media sites, the “incredible” routine has quickly racked up several million views:
U of M performance was a nod to an old routine
As it transpires, the viral U of M routine was actually a nod to an old performance the routine carried out to the same song.
The new performance in question took place in 2024 which, as the team explained, was a year of historical significance for the Minneapolis-based university.
The significance of the year 2004 is that it was the first year the university became double national champions, setting the tone for the 20 years that followed, in which U of M has won 22 national titles.
“It truly is our love letter to the legacy that is the University of Minnesota Dance Team,” Head Coach Amanda Gaines told CBS. “It’s been really special to get to share it with the alumni, the fans and everyone who has supported the program,” Gaines explained.
TikTok reacts to Minnesota’s ‘insane’ routine
While TikTok audiences can occasionally be rather skeptical about things that go viral, it’s safe to say the various comments sections beneath clips of the routine unanimously agreed that what they were watching was special.
“The entire team doing spins into an aerial in sync is absolutely wild!”, wrote one pleasantly surprised viewer. “I dont think Ive seen a group do that before.”
Their comments were echoed by another TikTok user who excitedly added: “I absolutely deceased!!!! WHY IS THIS NOT IN FIRST?! The timing, the musicality, the WHOLE TEAM DOES AN AERIAL LANDS ON ONE FOOT AND CONTINUES FOUETTS”.
“The aerial onto ONE LEG and back into the turns is INSANE”, wrote yet another impressed viewer.
While they didn’t manage to take home the crown on the day, one suspects each member of the University of Minnesota’s dance team will be feeling rather proud of themselves this week.
