Two signs your poop is healthy and gut is in good shape, doctor says

The stool is a key indicator of your health. While people’s diets may vary, a ‘healthy poop always’ has a specific appearance.

The way your poop looks tells a lot about your well-being. In fact, any changes in it can indicate underlying issues. If you don’t know what it is supposed to look like, a naturopathic doctor explains it in detail.

How does a healthy poop look?

Even though stool is the waste produced by the body, its color and consistency determine your health. According to Dr. Janine Bowring, differences in the same can mean a lot of things.

Unless you’ve eaten beetroot or are on your period that’s causing changes in your stool, healthy poop is supposed to be dark and shaped like the letter S, says the naturopathic doctor.

She calls it an “S-shaped dark sinker”, which is equally good as poop that looks like a “smooth log.” A healthy poop is supposed to sink and not stay afloat.

However, if your stool resembles tiny balls, which the doctor calls “meatball poop”, take it as a sign of severe constipation. As there are safer and more effective methods to treat the condition, we urge you to refrain from trying the viral TikTok hack promising fast relief from constipation.

“If your poops are lighter in color and floating, this could be some liver or gallbladder issues,” warns the doctor.

Doctor’s advice for healthier gut

If you’re suffering from constipation, which makes your poop look like meatballs, Dr. Janine recommends eating food rich in fiber. Kiwi of all the fruits, is known to be effective in treating the condition.

It’s recommended to eat at least 20 to 30 grams of fiber daily – a healthy carbohydrate that can make you lose weight “naturally” while keeping your gut healthy.

If you’re suffering from gas and bloating, try the massage technique demonstrated by Dr. Janine that relieves you immediately of excessive gas and bloating.

As for issues with the liver or gallbladder that cause soft poop, she recommends a turmeric supplement with a high concentration of curcumin.
