Too much estrogen could be the reason why you’re not losing weight
A human biologist has revealed one reason why you might not be losing weight even though youre exercising and eating a healthy diet.
Gary Brecka has gone viral on TikTok after explaining how levels of a certain hormone can have a huge impact on weight through water retention.

Why you might not be losing weight
The expert said he has women coming to him all the time saying theyve been working out five times a week for three months and havent lost a single pound.
“When you look at their hormones, you realize that theyre estrogen dominant, meaning their estrogen is out of ratio,” he said.
Estrogen is a hormone thats responsible for the development and regulation of the female reproductive system and sex characteristics.
Its found in both men and women, although females are known to have much higher levels of estrogen in their bodies.
Brecka explained that this estrogen imbalance causes your body to retain fluid and this water weight is showing on the scales.
So these poor women that think theyre fat are actually just retaining water, he concluded.
Learn more about water retention
Water retention, also known as edema, is when certain parts of the body swell due to a build-up of trapped fluid.
This is caused by fluid buildup in body tissues, which prompts body parts to become swollen, puffy or bloated.
It can occur in all kinds of places including the legs, ankles, feet and stomach and is often mistaken for fat.
This makes people feel as though they are not losing weight, when in reality their body is just full of water.
“Having an excessive amount of estrogen, also known as estrogen dominance, can cause weight gain in the form of water retention and bloating, Rock Creek Wellness says.
