TikTok’s ‘Blue Nail Theory’ shows that men really are all the same
According to TikTok’s ‘Blue Nail Theory’, the color you choose to paint your nails could say a lot about your love life.
It’s gone viral just weeks after the ‘Red Nail Theory’ took over social media, which says the shade makes women more desirable.

TikTok’s ‘Blue Nail Theory’
The theory says that when women ask their male partner what color they should get their nails done, they always say the same thing – blue!
Women have been putting their husbands and boyfriends to the test on TikTok, and many do in fact say the color. The trend is making people laugh because blue is such a random shade, and you’d expect guys to say pink or red.
A partner explained his reasoning in a viral video, saying he’ll never choose black because your nail will go purple, brown is like poo, white will get dirty too fast, pink is “too cheap” and yellow, orange, purple and green are a no – so that leaves “beige and blue”!
However, he said that beige gives off an “I don’t care which nail polish you do” vibe, so blue is the perfect option. Red is also a great classic choice, he said, but blue is better because it’s a little less clich.
Extending on from this theory, people on TikTok say that having your nails painted blue means you are in a relationship. Painting your nails the color of the sky is supposedly a secret code to show others that you’re ‘taken’, as it’s what men appear to like most.
However, guys are seemingly unaware of this, and it’s merely a coincidence that they always choose blue when asked.
Another hidden meaning
Another popular theory on TikTok says that you should get your nails done blue if you want to get proposed to.
It stems from one viral video where a woman was raging that she had a horrible dark blue on her nails when her fianc popped the question.
However, in the comments everyone said it’s actually a lucky color, with one person writing: “My nails were the exact same shade of blue when my fianc proposed.”
“Literally had the same color when I got proposed to as well,” someone else said.
A third person added: “I, too, was a victim of the blue-nailed proposal. Worst part was HE took me to the salon and helped me pick the color.”
The TikTok user then said we need to start a new blue nail theory because so many people commented the same thing.
“Ladies, if you’re waiting to be proposed to, get blue. It’ll happen,” she said.
