Maddie shared her expenses on TikTok

Late last year, Maddie (@mdncyr) took to TikTok where she stitched a post asking how people are surviving financially.

She explained that she and her husband bring home over $160k, with $1,700 going out on the mortgage a month with insurance. She has a vehicle that holds the four kids, while her husband has a truck.

I work day in and day out and we live paycheck to paycheck. And when I say we budget, we have to talk about how many times we can eat out, she explained. Groceries for us is like $200 to $300 a week. Four kids, a baby that needs special milk.

Drawing a comparison, Maddie said that her parents had a combined salary of $110,000 a year. They ate out, lived comfortably and were able to go on vacations.

She concluded her 2-minute video by stating that, if an appliance were to break, she and her husband would not be able to replace it.

TikTok was divided

Social media users fiercely debated Maddies finances in the comments, with some stating that $160k a year is a massive amount of money. The average salary in the US is $53,490 per year.

Other users completely understood, and needed no further explanation after Maddie revealed that she has four kids. Little humans are hugely expensive!

Your net income is $160k and your mortgage is only $1,700? I’m sorry, but where is the rest going? that’s $11,000 left each month, one person argued, which earned a response from Maddie.

Makes me believe you dont really understand finances. We have utilities, car payments, insurance on our vehicles, insurance on our kids, she said before continuing to list her expenses.

Another user commented: 160 year is around 13 K a month. When you start adding all the bills together, it goes quick.

Wife and I combined 130k. Kids two dogs, we live comfortably. I have no parents, no inheritance. Same with wife. This has to be budget issue, someone else countered.
