TikTok hack to ‘delay your period’ has Cardi B’s approval but gynecologist warns of health risk
The menstrual period is one of the most painful things to endure – mentally and physically. Although you can’t avoid it entirely, there are several over-the-counter medications known to delay it.
But, Cardi B and many ladies on TikTok feel similarly about a hack that’s helped them postpone their period while gynecologists warn against it.

TikTok hack to ‘delay your period’ has some truth to it
You are living under a rock if you haven’t heard of the cocktail famous on TikTok for delaying the menstrual period. Even Cardi B couldn’t help but brag about it.
Women have been popping ibuprofens in addition to drinking gelatin as they believe the strange and unverified combination will help them push the bleeding for later.
Cardi B admitted to drinking two ibuprofens and gelatin that “stopped her period” before she went on a date with her now estranged husband Offset. A lot of other women on TikTok have bragged about it the same way.
Although the overall recipe may not be as effective as one claims it to be, gynecologists believe there is some truth to the wild method, thanks to a well-known pain killer.
The properties of Ibuprofen are said to reduce the production of prostaglandins – a group of lipids that trigger the menstrual cycle. So over-the-counter medication does play a role in delaying your period, but it may not have the same impact on different individuals.
Furthermore, it may take a larger amount of ibuprofen to stop your period entirely and that’s only bound to have adverse effects on your health.
Gynecologist warns against the popular method
Firstly, it isn’t advisable to try the TikTok hack to delay your period without consulting a medical professional, and secondly, the method can impact your health negatively.
Dr. Rebecca Russell of the Cleveland Clinic told the New York Post that a woman would have to take “800 milligrams of ibuprofen, every six hours, or 500 milligrams of naproxen, three times a day” to stop a period, which is high enough to pose risks to your health.
When done regularly, this can cause severe side effects, including kidney damage, stomach pain, risks of overbreeding, and ulcers among other issues.
Moreover, there is no medical proof that gelatin can delay or stop the period, while it can cause issues like upset stomach, sore throat, swollen gums, and bloating.
