TikTok feature that lets you watch videos on flights without Wi-Fi is a ‘lifesaver’
TikTok users have only just discovered there’s a way to watch videos on a flight – or anywhere that you don’t have Wi-Fi!
The feature has existed since 2023, but it’s come as a revelation this week – and many are calling the trick a real ‘lifesaver’.
Watch TikToks on flight without Wi-Fi
The hack was shared by TikTok user Megan Homme, who wrote: “You just learned how to watch TikToks on a flight without WiFi.”
She then showed a feature called ‘Offline videos’ which lets you download a certain number of TikToks to watch without any internet connection.
“Download videos to watch offline. They’ll be refreshed with new content when you’re next connected to Wi-Fi,” the app says.
You can choose how many videos you want to download, either 50, 100, 150 or 200, and it tells you how much storage this will take up.
50 videos has an estimated watch time of 30 minutes, while 200 videos is 120 minutes, although this depends on whether you watch every single one.
How to watch TikTok videos offline
- Open TikTok and click on ‘Profile’
- Tap the three lines in the top-right
- Press ‘Settings and Privacy’
- Scroll down to ‘Cache & Cellular’
- Select ‘Offline Videos’
- Choose how many to download
- Click ‘Download’
The TikTok videos will now appear in the ‘Offline videos’ section, and it will tell you how many you have left to watch.
People say it’s a ‘lifesaver’
Many are only just finding out about the hack, and it’s a serious game changer for flights, train journeys and road trips.
One person wrote: “You’re a life saver, I have a flight this morning.”
“Definitely doing this for my next flight,” said another.
A third person added: “Seeing this three hours before my 10 hour flight was a life saver.”
“Okay this is genius,” someone else wrote.
However, many are saying that 200 videos isn’t enough, and they “will only last until the plane finishes boarding”.
