Three things that ‘only exist in America’ which Brit finds totally crazy
A British man has gone viral on TikTok after explaining three things that ‘only exist in America’ which he thinks is insane.
Josh, who describes himself as a “British kid having a laugh,” has 4.4 million followers and shares videos comparing the two countries.

Three things that ‘only exist in America’
The first crazy thing that only exists in America is sales tax, which the TikTok user said confused him a lot when he was in the United States.
“The price on the tag is not the price you’ll pay. It’s very very confusing. I’m not very good at maths. Not for me,” he said.
Sales tax is placed on the sale or lease of goods and services in the US and is usually around 7%, but differs by state.
Next up is what he called “the banning of the C word” – meaning that nobody in America uses the slur at all.
“As a Brit I say it all the time, any time, anywhere, any place, even as a term of endearment,” he said. “In America you never hear that word.”
The third thing that only exists in America is that every state is like its own country, which is very odd to people from elsewhere.
“If you thing you’re visiting America and America is one place, IT’S NOT,” the guy shouted. “Wait until you go to another state, it’s like another world.”
Every state is bound together in a political union but holds governmental jurisdiction over a separate and defined geographic territory.
‘We don’t do the math on sales tax’
In the comments, Americans are telling the TikTok user that they don’t actually work out the sales tax before they get to the checkout.
One person wrote: “We don’t try to figure out the price before we get to the register. We just know it’s going to be more and wait for the surprise when we check out.”
“No one does the math for tax, you just guess a few extra bucks,” said another.
A third person agreed: “I don’t do the math on sales tax. You just have to live with the fact that you won’t know the actual price until the register.”
“We dont even try and figure it up in our heads, we just prepare ourselves to pay more at the check out,” someone else commented.
However, others are noting that some states don’t have sales tax at all, including Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon.
