Things you had no idea you could do with your iPhone camera including laundry hack

Though you might be familiar with the basic settings for your iPhone’s camera, there are a bunch of hidden features we are betting you know nothing about.

As one of the leading mobile phone manufacturers in the world, Apple has designed its iPhones to wield cutting-edge technology. As such, there are now 1.46 billion iPhone users in the world.

Though Android users are constantly preaching about their phone’s superiority, often bragging about features they’ve had for years, true fans know that there is no beating Apple’s sleek design.

Now that iOS18’s cool features and the iPhone 16 are only a few months away, it’s a great time to open the textbooks and learn about the device you hold in your hand for 12 hours a day. Class is in session.

The settings that make or break Instagram-worthy pictures

At its base level, the iPhone camera is used to take pictures of just about anything you want to fill your photo albums with. Though it’s as simple as clicking a button, taking a well-lit and aesthetically pleasing picture is not always the easiest task.

Thankfully, there are countless tips and tricks to help you take the most Instagram-worthy pictures.

For owners of the iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro Max models, which have built-in 48-megapixel cameras, the key to taking good pictures is a little-known setting change.

For some reason, the models automatically take pictures with 24 megapixels, meaning you’re only using half of your phone’s maximum resolution. To change the feature, head over to your camera settings and turn on ProRAW Control.

While you’re still in your settings, making even more changes on your quest for the perfect brunch picture might be prudent.

Content creator Niki Victoria, who boasts a combined following of 2.8 million followers, is arguably very qualified to offer advice on taking photos with your iPhone camera.

In April of 2024, she revealed the iPhone camera settings she altered for taking social-media-ready photos. Among the list was turning on the grid for proper composition, the Prioritize Faster Shooting setting, and the Lens Correction feature for a steady shot.

Mirror Front Camera is going to help your selfies look better because its not automatically going to flip the photo and youre going to look like how you look in the mirror,” she added.

If you thought the iPhone camera was merely for taking pictures, then you would be sorely mistaken as it actually contains multitudes of hidden features.

The first, and arguably most useful feature, is the iPhone camera’s ability to find laundry care instructions. The built-in application was added with the iOS17 update and is activated by taking a picture of the laundry label symbols.

Hit the information tab at the bottom of the image and you will be presented with its care instructions like “do not bleach and wash by hand.

The information tab can also be used for your gardening needs, as explained by TikTok horticulture expert Darcy (@thedarcymichael) at the start of July. To identify a plant with your iPhone camera, simply hit the information button on an image of your plant.

But the hidden features do not stop there, and next time you find yourself in a foreign country you’ll soon be whipping out your iPhone for some translation assistance. That’s right, your iPhone camera can translate written text.

While focusing the lens on written text, you should see a geometric icon in the bottom right corner of your screen. Hit that and then zoom in when prompted until you get pop-up options for Translate, Learn, and Share.

The future is looking good for Apple users

You might only just be learning about your current iPhone’s capabilities, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get excited over the upcoming iPhone 16 and iOS18 releases. Be cautious though, there are a range of iPhone models not compatible with iOS18’s features.

One of the exciting new iOS18 features Apple revealed in July included iPhone eye tracking, which will be a game changer for those with physical disabilities. The handy upgrade allows you to control your iPhone using nothing but your eyes, which are tracked through the front camera.

On the iPhone 16 side of things, customers can expect a major upgrade in the form of a 48MP ultra-wide camera and Sony IMX903 sensor for dramatic photographic improvements.
