The moment an otter comes face to face with pet dog, and lives to tell the tale
Though it was initially touch-and-go, the moment a pet dog played with an otter has captured the hearts and minds of animal lovers everywhere.
If you need uplifting examples of how brilliant our little planet is, you need not look further than the animal kingdom. Dogs are constantly proving why they are man’s best friend, whether that be through daring acts of confidence or their ability to help you get a date. Wild animals are just as fascinating, as evidenced by the recent realization about the Komodo Dragon’s teeth.

The dog looked to be playing with the otter
When they’re not chewing on your furniture or eating your shoes, dogs really are the best pets we could ever ask for. There is no greater example than a viral video from animal rescuer AJ (@aj.aleixo) whose house must resemble a zoo.
In the clip, which has accumulated nearly 300k likes and 1.5 million views, AJ’s Doberman could be seen staring down a wiggly brown creature on the lawn. That creature turned out to be an otter.
Admittedly, there is a tense moment when watching the video, after all, both the dog and the otter are animals at heart. Thankfully, the tensions dissipated moments later when the Doberman did the iconic dog bounce, suggesting he wanted to play.
Though the otter initially seemed to be more interested in exploring the yard, he was soon bouncing around the grass with the Doberman. At one point, the otter was on his back as the dog stood over him with a playful grin.
In the comments, AJ admitted to deliberately making the video look like a wild encounter when actually, his dogs had raised the otter from eight weeks old. He said they were certified besties.
“You should see our pit bull caring for baby deer, raccoons, baby bats, baby opossums, and other orphaned indigenous wild animals that come to our care,” AJ said.
Now everyone wants an otter

Despite AJ repeatedly saying the otter was domesticated from a young age, many comments admitted to wanting one as a pet. As a top predator in its own right, owning an otter is probably not a good idea.
One person said: “The little girl in me is screaming with cuteness but the Floridian in me and screaming with fear bc some otters are so vicious.”
“When I see any wild animals engaging in genuine play behavior, either alone or with a cat or dog, it fills my heart with warmth. Were all so similar yknow? Everyone wants a little play time sometimes,” another gushed.
A third said: “Water puppy just wanted to play with the land puppies for a bit. So cute.”
