The iPhone camera has a hidden white noise feature that no one is talking about

The iPhone is bustling with hidden secrets that very few people take advantage of, including a built-in white noise feature to give Spotify playlists a run for their money.

Your humble iPhone contains multitudes of hidden features that can make your life considerably easier. From the spy-style trick that lets you listen in on conversations, to the many alternative ways you can use your camera, you’re only using a minimal percentage of your phone’s true power.

The iPhone’s white noise feature is hidden in settings

White noise, described as a blend of sounds that humans can hear, is scientifically proven to aid sleep quality. As such, apps like Spotify and Apple Music have entire playlists dedicated to sleep.

Though most are happy using their music apps for brown, white, and pink noise, some have said it’s frustrating to see it included in yearly wrap-ups and AI-generated playlists. Thankfully, there is a fix, and it’s not the 12-hour videos on YouTube with a black screen!

The clever hack was unearthed by Katie Wood (@katiewood____), who has been inundated with nearly 200k likes and millions of views after posting to TikTok last month.

“Some of you don’t know your phone has a built-in white noise machine. Let me show you,” she told her 226k followers.

To turn on the handy feature, head on over to your settings app and type in background sounds, which can be found manually under accessibility, then hearing.

After switching it on, you are provided with six sounds to choose from, with Katie stating that “Dark Noise” is similar to brown noise. Though there aren’t as many options as Spotify, the iPhone’s white noise feature can be switched on via the control center.

You might have only now learned of the iPhone’s hidden features, but that list is set to grow considerably with the upcoming releases of iOS18 and the iPhone 16.

Lives have been changed

It seems social media users desperately need some sleep help as many confessed to using variations of white noise every night.

One person wrote: “So I dont need ‘brown noise for sleep | 12 hours’ on Spotify anymore.”

“Do you know how much brown noise takes up on my Spotify wrapped every year,” another wrote, while a third said, “Maam I hope both sides of your pillow are always cold and you live a long and prosperous life, thank you.”
