If youre still single in 2024 then you might need to brush up on the latest dating trends in hope of securing a long-term match.

Dry Dating

Following success at Dry January, daters can take it one step further in the hopes of entering into relationships with a clear head. Dry Dating describes the act of removing alcohol from the date equation, therefore making you more present and less inclined to feel obligated and pressured into sexual acts.

Nina told us earlier this year: Dates were starting to become more about where and what wed drink. I would wake up in the morning and have a hard time thinking about the date beyond being drunk and having fun.

Open-hearted masculinity

At the end of 2023, dating app Bumble dropped its predictions for the following year including open-hearted masculinity. The term is the antithesis of the alpha male rubbish that has cropped up in recent years and is used to describe being more emotionally vulnerable with your partner.

Their data suggested that 31% of American men were ditching the bravado for a more honest approach.

Val-Core Dating

Though politics used to be off-limits at both family functions and dates, more people than ever are ranking the importance of sharing beliefs with people close to you. 1 in 3 women find it a massive turn-off when a potential partner takes zero interest in current issues, while 1 in 4 find politically inclined people more attractive.

In practice, this looks like doing something that our parents generation would have thought unthinkable bringing up topics like politics, the patriarchy, climate change, racial injustices, or even the rising wealth gap on a first date, or even earlier, Bumbles Lucille McCart told news.com.au. I know when I was growing up my mum told me it was the height of rudeness to ask someone how they voted.

Pick-up lines

Despite the popular belief that chat-up lines are cheesy and often unfunny, recent data suggests that more people are interested in the daring pick-up choice than first expected.

In a new survey, 86% of participants said they enjoyed having a pick-up line used on them, with the most popular being, Aside from being sexy, what do you do for a living?

Living Apart Together

This dating trend is exactly what it sounds like. Despite being in committed relationships, 3.89 million American couples are choosing to live apart from their significant other. It’s shaping up to be one of the biggest dating trends in 2024.

Studies also showed that couples living apart value their time together more, enhancing the experience for both people.

Rizz is primarily a Gen Z slang term that has popped up over the last few years on sites like Instagram and TikTok. Short for charisma, it describes someone who is confident, charming, and cool.

As reported by the dating site Plenty of Fish, 52 percent of singles consider it to be an attractive quality, while 43 percent of people admit to falling for someone because of their so-called Rizz.

Contra-Dating

Plenty of Fish again coined the term and describes the act of actively pursuing someone outside of your normal interest. Frankly, if youre struggling to find a match from people youd usually go after, then why not mix it up a little?

Dating expert, Eva Gallagher, recommended the new method for singles who are looking to step outside their comfort zone and shake up their dating experience.

Dating coach Myisha Battle added: We can really get boxed in by what we think we want and need, and we dont allow room for people to surprise us.

Avalanching

Though avalanching has become one of the most controversial dating trends of 2024, surveys found that 80% of people were engaging in it during the month of January. The term is used to illustrate the act of furiously swiping left with little regard for your usual type, interests, and attraction level.

It was particularly popular in the lead-up to Valentines Day
