The ‘most narcissistic’ relationship we struggle with isn’t from our husbands, study says
It’s a common belief that men are more narcissistic than women and the most antagonizing relationship we tend to have is with our romantic partners, especially husbands.
A recent study lists the U.S. states with “most suspected narcissists”, while also revealing the most “perceived narcissist” in interpersonal relationships. People with the mental condition (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) are so selfish and dangerous that those who have encountered them are desperate to learn more – a pattern shown in the recent findings.

Study reveals the ‘most narcissistic’ relationship
Not every human with narcissistic traits has a full-blown personality disorder. But even those who are moderately or severely narcissistic are difficult to share a healthy relationship with.
Because anybody can fall on the spectrum, you can have a narcissistic relationship with a parent, partner, friend, or even a boss. The severity may vary depending on how close you are to them.
Even though toxic relationships with narcissists are mostly discussed in the romantic context, the study published by Counseling Psychology found that the “perceived narcissists” are mothers.
If you share a complicated relationship with your narcissistic mother, we have discussed signs you need to be aware of and ways to respond healthily while preserving your sanity.
The study analyzed Google search data over the past year in every state and the 30 most populous cities, to analyze different types of questions and queries about narcissism.
Most questions arise in people who have either experienced narcissism firsthand with someone they know or share an intimate relationship with. Sadly, most people with narcissistic mothers took to Google to find answers.
Husbands are next on the list of “common relationships Americans perceive to be narcissistic,” followed by boyfriend, wife, partner, dad, friend, girlfriend, sister, and boss.
If you think your friend is a narcissist, setting boundaries and realistic expectations is a must. If you’re navigating the dating world, beware of a narcissistic partner’s tactics to hoover you.
U.S. states with ‘most suspected narcissists’
The study suggests that the U.S. states with the most searches about narcissism have the highest number of narcissists.
While Texas, Iowa, New Hampshire, Maine, and South Carolina rank for the top 5 states with the most suspected narcissists, Nebraska, the District of Columbia, Wyoming, and Hawaii take the last spots.
Among the most narcissistic-related searches is the haunting question – Can a narcissist change?, which sits on the top with the following queries: What does narcissism mean? Are narcissists insecure? Can narcissists be cured? and, Is narcissism genetic?
To answer the most searched terms – no, narcissism can’t be cured. However, another study published in the American Psychology Association found that the condition decreases with age, but people who had more narcissistic traits as children carry it into their adulthood, which means they don’t necessarily change.
