Study reveals which streaming service offers best value for money and it’s not Netflix

From Netflix to Disney+ and Hulu, there are so many different TV streaming services now that it’s hard to know what to subscribe to.

Paying for every single one each month would be ludicrous, so which one is actually the best value for money? A study has revealed the answer.

Best streaming service is Prime Video

The study by digital marketing agency Searchbloom analyzed data for the top 10 streaming services available in the US and concluded that the most cost-effective one is Prime Video.

They compared subscription prices and the number of titles available in 2024 to find out which gets the most bang for your buck. Prime Video has 17,265 titles in total, meaning you get a whopping 1,440 titles per US dollar.

That’s just Prime Video’s free titles too. They also offer thousands of new movies that can be rented as well as other purchasing services.

The monthly subscription currently costs $11.99, which is only $3 more than when the service launched in 2016 at $8.99. That reflects an average annual increase of 3.8%, less than most other streaming options.

Amazon’s subscription mainly distributes films and TV shows produced or co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios as well as Amazon Originals. However, they do also show content from other providers, most-recently including live sporting events.

Netflix comes in at second place

The next most cost-effective option is Netflix, which offers 518 titles per dollar. However, that is nearly three times fewer than Prime Video. They currently offer 8,023 titles in the US, which seems pretty measly in comparison to Amazon’s 17,265.

A standard Netflix subscription now costs a whopping $15.49, up from $7.99 when it first launched in 2011. That’s an average price increase of 5.4% per year. However, they do offer a cheaper membership with adverts for $6.99.

It may not offer the most value for money, but Netflix is the most-subscribed streaming service with over 277.7 million paying members in over 190 countries as of July 2024, Statista reveals. It is also the 23rd most-visited website in the world.

Netflix offers all kinds of different titles, but Netflix Original productions account for half of its entire library in the United States.
