Study finds that cougars dating younger men might have the happiest relationship
Researchers have found that cougars might be onto something, after finding that older women in relationships with younger men are found to have higher relationship satisfaction than those of the same age.�
A team of researchers at London Metropolitan University aimed to dispel some of the stigma surrounding older women in relationships with younger women, by finding out more about the inner workings of the dynamics.
Its a victory for Cougars with the study finding that older women and younger men out-performed relationships of the same age in all satisfaction categories.�
The study analyzed women dating younger men
Published in November 2023, the study sought to find out more about the truth of age-gap relationships, citing that society tends to view women who date younger men more critically than older men who date younger women.
We wanted to understand more about the qualities of these women compared to women who date men of a similar age group, reads the study.
The study defines cougars as women who exclusively date men at least 7-10 years younger. The researchers gathered a sample of 24 women, 17 of which are currently dating men around ten years younger and seven who are in an age-similar relationship.
During the study, the women were asked to complete online surveys using various modes of measurement, to track their levels of emotional intelligence, sexual self-efficacy, and subjective happiness.
Sexual self-efficacy is linked to sexual confidence and satisfaction. Emotional intelligence is the ability to perceive and regulate emotions. Subjective happiness marks the well-being and general satisfaction.�
The study is a win for cougars dating younger men
According to the research, cougars gained higher scores on average in all three categories, potentially evidencing an advantage for cougar relationships.
Since SSE, E.I., and S.H. are associated with fulfilling intimate relationships, this study questions the preconceived notion that women in relationships with younger men are any less fulfilling or successful than those in similar relationships, reads the study.
We argue that further research is needed to understand the age gap in dating among couples, including the development of suitable interventions that extend to sexuality and relationship-diverse individuals.

As explained by the university researchers, older women dating younger men often face more criticism and stigma than men in age-gap relationships.
