Starbucks release newcups for Black History Month by ‘Creative Lou’
In honor of Black History Month, Starbucks has joined forces with Seattle artist Damon Brown, to release its new line of sleek tumblers and cups. The drinkware collection is meant to celebrate the annual observance throughout the year and not just in February.
The design unique to Black culture is created to add users’ perspective to the artists’ vision of community and the same will be available at participating Starbucks stores in the US and Canada starting today, January 30, 2024.

Starbucks’ new collection honors Black History Month
Starbucks collection dedicated to the annual celebration consists of two cold cups and a stainless tumbler.
The 24-ounce cold cup features two people almost holding hands as they walk outward together. The geometric shapes in the background represent “community” and are open to users’ interpretation.
The other cold cup and 16-ounce stainless tumbler depict a man and a woman walking toward each other, with more geometric shapes filling the rest of the design.

Starbucks’ collection celebrates the achievements, triumphs, and contributions of Black Americans to the history of the United States, while Damon’s designs aim to “elevate Black voices.”
Each of the drinkware has the brand name, Creative Lou, inspired by the artist’s childhood name marked on them.
Colors in the artist’s designs are inspired by Black art
Damon’s choice of colors on the Starbucks tumbler and cups is unique to Black History Month. While the light hues of blue, green, and cream give the “1960s vibe”, they also represent Black art.
Each figure depicted in the collection dons a different hairstyle, which can’t be found on the regular merchandise.
There was a conscious effort to put a stylistic modern shape with this movement and put some hairstyles in there with some different braids and those kinds of things that you classically dont see on merchandise, the artists shared.
Talking about the “magic” he has developed over the years, which is reflected in the Starbucks collection, Damon said: “Call it complex simplicity. I try to do a blend of shapes and movement and let your mind the viewers mind connect with the art and fill in your own blanks with your own imagination.”
The prices of the sleek tumbler and cups are yet to be revealed. Meanwhile, some TikTok users have already managed to get their hands on the recent Black History Month collection.
