Psychotherapist’s 6 tough truths she would ‘never’ share with her clients

Therapists are humans too and when life becomes overwhelming, they seek support like the rest of us. However, there are a few things they can “never” share with a client, even if it impacts their life significantly.

Mental health is of utmost importance. It may be a therapist’s job to help you heal, but they aren’t immune to certain factors beyond their control. A psychotherapist on TikTok reveals things that go on in her mind while interacting with her clients that cannot be discussed openly.

Therapist shares things she ‘can’t tell’ her clients

New York-based Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Holly Schorder, reveals things she can never share with her clients as a professional psychotherapist, including secretly liking the fact that they share pictures and text messages during the session.

The therapist reveals in her TikTok videos that there are times when she cries after a session because she can’t stop herself from feeling things her clients feel.

She has over ten years of experience, yet she is as “nervous” as she was on day one of her job when she has an appointment with a new client.

According to Holly, therapists can be reminded of their clients throughout the week and she always spends a few minutes prepping for the session before it commences. She also feels guilty about taking time off because she feels the “need to be there” for her clients.

They struggle with mental health issues too

It’s a common misconception that therapists aren’t affected by mental health problems; in fact, it’s more challenging given their line of profession.

Holly debunks the myth in another video by opening up about her issues with depression and anxiety. She seeks support when life becomes overwhelming.

She took to TikTok to explain that therapists are humans, too, with the same problems as fellow humans. The psychotherapist opines that facing mental health problems has made her a better therapist as she can relate with her patients.

“When I say I can empathize with my clients, I really can. I understand what it’s like to go through those emotions, to have those days and feel like other people don’t understand you,” she explains.

Her biggest support has always been having someone by her corner. Someone who could understand what she was going through.

Even if the person you’re leaning on can’t take your pain away, knowing they are there for you makes a world of difference.

Holly has been practicing as a licensed therapist since 2014 after graduating from Adelphi University. She works closely with adolescents and adults who want to focus on anxiety, depression, school refusal, self-esteem, and self-harm.
