Police address Miami mall video people think showed ‘creatures’ or ‘aliens’ at Bayside Marketplace
Social media has been alight with conspiracy theories of an alleged creature captured on video during the Miami Mall police swarm this week. Police have explained what it really was.
On Monday night, over 60 police cars headed to Bayside Marketplace Mall in Miami to respond an incident involving juveniles causing a riot. Four teens were arrested following the chaos, which police say involved fireworks, fights, and theft.�
Social media users however have spread wild conspiracy theories about the incident and an alleged involvement of aliens, believing a video to depict a suspicious creature at the scene.
Miami Police have since denied that any videos captured evidence of aliens or creatures and instead offered a plausible explanation.
Arrests over chaos at the Miami mall in January 2024
More than 60 cars arrived at the Miami mall on Monday night after police say they received numerous 911 calls with reports of gunshots.
Reports from Miami Police suggest that groups of teenagers inside of the open-air mall were throwing fireworks at each other. As per CBS, the police also reported that juveniles were armed with sticks in a fight, requiring police to crowd control. According to reports, teens ran off in various directions when police approached, causing further chaos to ensue.
One group allegedly entered into stores and caused damage, causing several stores to close down for the night. Police also reported that one group of teens beat up a local driver and stole his phone from inside the car.
Four arrests were made in connection to the chaos. Two teens were charged with burglary, grand theft, battery, and resisting arrest without violence.

Following the incidents, videos on social media become the root of various conspiracy theories. Believers felt theyd witnessed a potential police response to aliens in the United States, pointing to a gray figure seen moving in a video and citing the number of police cars in attendance.
Footage shared across X and TikTok showed blurry shots of a large gray figure moving slowly along the street.
The videos coincided with allegations of witnesses seeing said creatures at the mall. I heard it was 10 ft aliens in the mall and people started shooting at them, reads one popular tweet.
Alien has been trending on X, formally known as Twitter, over the past few days and remains a hot topic on the platform.
Police have denied any alien involvement
Miami PD has shut down any allegations of extra-terrestrials involved in the chaos, pointing out that despite wild theories online, the video actually shows someone and their shadow walking on the street – not an alien.
A spokesperson for the police department told TMZ that what is seen on this clip is the shadow of someone walking. If you look at the bottom of the shadow, you can see the person. No creature.
