A couple have gone viral on TikTok after sharing a video of themselves walking around Ohio with no shoes on.

The clip seems like a prank, but internet users have taken it very seriously and are sharing their horror in the comments.

Ohio family stops wearing shoes

“We are no longer going to wear shoes, even when we’re outside” the TikTok user, Christi Fritz, says in the viral video while walking along an icy sidewalk with her husband. “I think there are so many benefits of going barefoot outside.”

She acknowledges that people will look at them weirdly but says the benefits are “totally worth it” – including feeling grounded, connected to nature and gaining a much greater appreciation for the natural world.

In the video, the pair stroll around Ohio with no shoes on, walking around a clothing store and even going up a dirty escalator.

Fritz claims that walking barefoot is a form of “foot yoga” which helps form strong arches, improve posture, reduce stress and positively affect the immune system, while also helping with copper and iron levels.

“We like to think of it like a cold plunge for our feet, especially where we are in the winter it’s super cold here and there’s a lot of snow, but there’s plenty of places like this fireplace to warm up when we need to,” she concludes.

TikTok users are horrified

In the comments, social media users are dumbfounded, with one person writing: “No way. I don’t even go barefoot in my own home.”

“Glass, frostbite, bacteria, bugs, dog feces, food and drinks that were dropped or spilled,” said another.

A third person added: “How are your toes not freezing? This is crazy.”

“All fun and games until you step on a rusty nail and get a horrible infection,” someone else wrote.

Another added: “It’s literally illegal to go barefoot at the mall I work at.”

Have you reaped the benefits of grounding yet?

The video seems like a prank

The video has had more than 8.5 million views and the pair even made a follow-up clip in which they are walking around with no shoes again, but something certainly seems off.

TikTok users noticed that at one point in the video, the woman’s other foot is visible and you can see that she’s wearing an Ugg boot.

She’s also speaking in a rather sarcastic tone and makes comments that clearly aren’t true, like walking barefoot is “common in Ohio” and “helps your immune system”.

Fritz has shared other videos since which clearly show them wearing shoes, so it looks like this one is a phony. It certainly fooled TikTok though!
