People are quitting meat after watching Netflixs new diet documentary

People are suddenly vowing to quit eating meat and seafood after watching a new Netflix diet documentary about twins trying different foods and comparing the results.

While vegans and vegetarians are still a small portion compared to the rest of society, the sheer number increases year on year. There is also a constant debate about the health benefits and detriments as well as the moral implications of eating meat. But now a new Netflix documentary may have tilted the scales once again.

What is the Netflix documentary about?

The premise of You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment is actually very simple. As part of a Stanford University experiment, four sets of twins completely changed their diets for eight weeks. One twin would eat the Standard American Diet (SAD), while the other would go completely vegan.

Following the experiment, the group would undergo tests on things like blood pressure and weight to better understand how their designated diet affected them. The docuseries also covers the issue on a wider scale, taking a look at how plant-based diets could affect the climate crisis.

The results on Pam and Wendy, Charlie and Michael, Carolyn and Rosalyn, and Jevon and John were astounding.

There was a 10% to 15% drop in LDL cholesterol, a 25% drop in insulin, and a 3% drop in body weight in just eight weeks, all by eating real food without animal products, said lead study author Christopher Gardner.

Social media is switching their diet

Despite only releasing on Netflix on January 1, the diet documentary has already shot to popularity and has been trending on social media. Many watchers took to X, formally known as Twitter, to discuss the revelations.

One person wrote: “If you never want to eat meat and seafood again. Go watch You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment on Netflix.”

Just watched you are what you eat on Netflix and I feel like going vegan now, another person wrote.

A third added: It’s really made me question my relationship with meat though. I was going to go on an omnivore diet and now considering vegan.

But not everyone agrees, as someone countered: Feel like I’ve been ambushed by the new Netflix series “You Are What You Eat:A Twin Experiment.
