One regional McDonald’s menu item that nobody knew existed

The item is called a Basket of Fries, and it’s a bigger portion of McDonald’s fries that comes in a flat “basket” instead of the usual box.
It sparked curiosity on TikTok this week after a video of a woman ordering a box of 40 chicken nuggets went viral.
She ordered the McNuggets and asked “Can I get that with a basket of fries?” – to which the server replied: “Of course!”
In the comments, people were baffled, with one person writing: “What is a basket of fries?”
“I wish you showed us the basket of fries,” said another.
A third person added: “A basket of fries? What?”
McDonald’s Basket of Fries
The Basket of Fries is a real menu item which is listed on the “Our Menu” section of the McDonald’s website.
A picture shows the “basket,” which is just a flat cardboard box designed to hold more fries than the average portion.
It doesn’t say how much the box contains, but it comes in at 650 calories, which tells us everything we need to know.
A regular box of fries contains 337 calories, while a large one is 444 calories. So the Basket of Fries isn’t actually that big.
It’s only double the size of a regular portion, so it’s enough for one very hungry person or two people to share.
How to order the menu item
McDonald’s doesn’t have a list of locations that sell the Basket of Fries, but it’s been spotted in many Southern locations.
It’s definitely on the menu at some restaurants in Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas and Alabama, but not all of them will have it.
The best way to find out if it’s available at your local McDonald’s is by downloading the McDonald’s app and ordering McDelivery.
If they do, the Basket of Fries will be listed in the sides section. They usually cost around $3.99, but the price will vary by location.
