Doctor’s 3 tips to ‘poop better’
If your visits to the bathroom have been painful and exhausting despite eating right and sleeping well, perhaps you should try Dr. Janine’s tips for better bowel movement.
Constipation is not so uncommon and it can occur for several reasons. However, we urge you not to try unverified TikTok hacks for a quick fix.
Do not skip your breakfast
A busy lifestyle is one of the main reasons people skip breakfast, although doctors do not recommend going about your day without the essential meal.
The naturopathic doctor says skipping breakfast is a major contributor to constipation because the morning meal is important to “sync your circadian cycle with nature”, which stimulates a proper bowel movement.
See natural light in the morning
As with breakfast which is important to set the circadian cycle, exposing yourself to natural light in the morning is highly effective in regulating your bowel movement.
Dr. Janine recommends getting out of the house to get some sunlight. If that’s not possible, she recommends sitting by an open window to get more natural light into your eyes and skin.
Drink warm water throughout the day
Drinking warm water throughout the day is great for your bowels; it’s better with freshly squeezed lime juice added to it.
“This will help to stimulate your peristalsis and the moving of the poop through the digestive tract,” she says. Aim for ten cups of warm water daily or you can also do decaffeinated herbal teas.
