Name a cockroach after your ex for $10 this Valentine’s Day to squash the romantic past
The San Antonio Zoo is helping people get over their romantic past by letting them name cockroaches, rodents and even veggies after their ex-partners.
The annual Valentine’s Day tradition is a part of the Cry Me a Cockroach Fundraiser, and the donations will be used for the welfare of the zoo animals. So, squashing your romantic past means a step towards the betterment of the animals’ future. Could there be a better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day?

You can name a roach, rodent or a veggie after your ex
You can “ex-terminate” your past by naming cockroaches, rodents and veggies after your exes at the San Antonio Zoo, and the same will later be used as feed for the animals.
The donors will receive a digital downloadable Valentine’s card to show their support for the cause as well as the satisfaction of forgetting the not-so-special someone from their romantic past.
However, you must be 18 or above to participate in the charity. If you meet the criteria, you can visit the official website and choose from one of their options.
- Name a veggie after your ex for $5. You can choose from romaine lettuce, cabbage, and other leafy greens.
- Name a cockroach after your ex for $10.
- Name a rodent after your ex for $25.
The rodents that are named after exes and fed to the animals aren’t live feed. The zoo used pre-frozen rodents, which are a part of the daily scheduled feedings.
