Mother called an ‘idiot’ for bringing her baby to a bar, now there’s a huge online debate
A video capturing the heated confrontation between a mother and a random bar-goer has divided social media and sparked a fierce debate on whether babies should be allowed in bars.
Two viral videos with over 12.6 million views on TikTok depict the moment a female bar-goer calls a young mother an “idiot” multiple times while yelling at her for bringing a toddler to the bar and restaurant.

TikTok account @prettyinpink000000 showcases the moments leading to the confrontation where the mother, baby, and her friends are preparing to settle the bill.
However, in the background, you can see and hear the woman who found issues with the young mother’s actions. She repeats “they’re idiots” more than once in the 10-second-long video.
The longer video with the actual confrontation showcases the visibly livid bar-goer as she orders the 27-year-old woman to get her baby “out of the bar.”
The TikTok user remains calm and explains to the other customer that they were about to leave after paying the bill, but the latter doesn’t let it slip.
“You guys are idiots. Why would you do that? Why would you do this to the poor baby? ” she asks, before continuing to hurl “idiot” comments at the mother and her entire group.
As the situation escalates, an employee at the bar intervenes to tell the woman yelling at the mother to leave as “they weren’t bothering” her or anyone.
Viral video sparks huge debate
The rules surrounding minors at a bar differ from state to state. Some regions forbid children at bars, while others allow minors if they’re accompanied by parents/guardians.
Therefore, the video in question has gathered all kinds of reactions with some supporting the mother’s decision to bring her child with her and others arguing the ambiance of any place that allows alcohol or smoking is not suitable for a young child.
“I agree the woman’s reaction was uncalled for. But I would never bring my kids to a bar,” said one, and another added: “She handled it poorly, but shes right. Babies dont belong in bars”
Another user argued: “I work in a small local brewery with a taproom and families come in all the time we are all super close with their kids and we love to see them visit!”
“Went to a bar/ restaurant last night that had a great band & kids everywhere. It was lovely,” added one.
One comment said: “No babies in bars period. How hard is it to get that.” when another user weighed in by saying: “Who cares where she brings her baby& to call a stranger an idiot is insane.”
